iMac, schmiMac!

Now, the next step is to take that 233 processor and replace it with a 266 or 300. With these cheapo AMD chips running at 300/333 in the sub-$1000's, it makes the iMac sound really bad.

And do it *before* Christmas, not after.

While we are at it, drastically raise the megahertz of the desktop models. The iMac is a great thing for Apple, but they need to attack on several different fronts. Apple seems to be dropping the ball in this area.

After all, there are plenty of people who are intrigued by the iMac but would prefer a desktop. After you add in the price of a monitor (assuming you don't already have one), the price of a G3 desktop doesn't look to0 hot compared to the Wintel world. [Yeah, I know, Windoze sucks--I 'use' NT at work (and my own G3 Powerbook) -- but not every consumer realises that]

The Wintel world has managed to increase speeds by roughly 50% since the G3 was introduced, while Apple has managed only 25% (266->333). We had 300 mhz 603e's two years ago, and 350mhz 604e's one year ago--why aren't we seeing 500mhz G3 750's? Why is Apple and AIM slacking?

My big fear is that Apple is losing it's momentum. I hope they prove me wrong.
