<<Wall Street gives Compaq's new strategy a thumbs up>>

Just read the article. Thanks, Paul.

I'd like to know what even halfway sophisticated buyer would buy from a reseller when they can buy direct from CPQ? The resellers are going to start pushing other brands for fear of losing sales to CPQ direct. IT AIN'T GONNA WORK UNTIL CPQ CUTS THE UMBILLICAL CORD WITH THE RESELLERS. AND THEY CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT RUINING WHAT THEY HAVE IN PLACE ALREADY. This is lose-lose for CPQ.

A smart buyer will wonder which way to go and will turn to the dependable vendor - DELL! As far as pricing, CPQ had to lower their prices THIS WEEK in order to keep up with Dell after Dell lowered theirs last week. I'll bet they loved doing that! It serves them right for being so tacky and making their "big" announcement the day before Dell releases 3rd qtr. results. DELL WILL EAT THEIR LUNCH!
