Michael, the question of whether global warming is upon us or not should ultimately be decided on scientific grounds, not political (or economic) ones. And, as a matter of fact, I know just two stop-global warming activists (if one can call them that), and it so happens they both describe themselves as political conservatives. One of the things they say they want to conserve is the earth. Now, to the Establishment press... I don't see any spin in the opening sentences of the first NYT story. Now the Washington Times, indeed, might use adjectives like "crazed", as well as loaded idioms such as "pulling the wool over everyone's eyes", but this is your gray, staid NYT after all. The third story is about warring domestic interest groups -- all across the political spectrum, in other words, and does not appear to be fingering any one of them in particular. As for the 2nd story, it is about the reaction of the National Academy of Sciences to the petition you have referred to. Well, the reaction was negative, and the Times reported it. jbe
