Dividend Reinvestment Plans. You buy a stock, have the company hold the certificates (this is optional, but it keeps me from trading them on a whim) and agree that each dividend is automatically added to your holdings in that stock. This way, you're not frittering away small dividend checks and (IMO the nicest thing) your added investments are not charged broker's fees. You can add to your holdings monthly and withdraw from the account as well.
