Look out...here comes Siemens...

Siemens spinoff aims to boost
DRAM market share

By Jack Robertson

MUNICH-- After spinning off from its parent,
Siemens Semiconductor intends to become the No.
4 global DRAM producer, Andreas von Zitzewitz,
president of the memory division, told SBN today.

Siemens, which currently has a 10% world market
share in DRAMs, is seeking a partner to join it and
hopefully double the share for the combined
companies, he said.

"The alliance could take one of several forms: a joint
venture, a cooperative agreement, or other
cooperation. The new chip company is talking with
many potential partners and any arrangement may
take some time," he said.

Despite a $700 million loss in its fiscal 1998, the
Siemens chip operation is now poised to take quick
advantage of any upturn in the DRAM market, von
Zitzewitz said."Three DRAM fabs-Dresden;
Richmond, Va.; and a joint venture in Taiwan with
Mosel-Vitelic-are now using 0.22- micron
processing, the most advanced in the memory
market," he said.

Gee, Micron = .21 micron, Siemens = .22 micron...yup, Micron still has a .01 advantage! pleessseee....

Larry, monthly sales from TSM show 2 months strongly up after the
precipitous drop at their apex. The "valley" of the dip is however shallow so the 2month "recovery" may be just a make-up for temporary shortages. Of course, MicronT will make importation of such chips a crime against the constitution so they can charge whatever the fcc will allow.

Monthly sales: Taiwan semiconductor ($millions)

the party seems to be running out. actually, the dumb are running out of dough ;-)

larry, we see what exists. there has only been a down cycle and that is what we see. now their has been a nice move so mu loses less money. if this is an up cycle then the bulls are in for BIG trouble ;-)

btw, i hear korean product hits the markets en masse shortly.

btw, dell said their semi costs went down... ;-)

btw, mu made more money q1 last year than q1 this year. does that mean 1999 will also be worse than 1998? ;-)

i'm beginning to get visibility and it isn't looking bullish.
