I'll bet nothing was in the works 6 months ago, and over the near term the stock will probably experience some swings [like today], but over the next year this could work out quite well for AMES. It looks on first glance that AMES is getting HDS on pretty favorable terms, but the big question is can they convert the Hills stores they want to keep at a reasonable cost. I do feel that announcing the acquisition at the same time they announced 3-Q earnings, [which were great], was a mistake. I expected the stock to decline right from the opening due to arbitrage [sell AMES, and buy HDS] and was surprised to see AMES jump initially to 21 3/8. I did take profits in my trading account at 21 1/4, but remain convinced that AMES is still a great long term hold and still am holding the bulk of my AMES shares.
