COMDEX Fall 98
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 1998--Yamaha Systems Technology Inc. will demonstrate the new CRW4416 4Xwrite, 4Xrewrite, 16Xread CD-RW in their booth at Comdex 98 in Las Vegas.
The booth will be shared with three prototype drives of future products: a CRW6416S CD-RW drive with 6Xwrite, 4Xrewrite, and 16Xread; a Portable 4X4X16 CD-RW drive; and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive.
In addition, six of Yamaha's partners will share the booth with the company. They are: NewTech Information Systems, Ahead Software, Extreme Technologies, Cedar Technology, CeQuadrat, Inc., and Sonic Foundry.
The CRW4416 has the fastest rewrite speed of any CD-RW drive on the market and is available with either SCSI or EIDE interface. It will be demonstrated with the partners' software.
Yamaha's partners this year will show a variety of software for the Yamaha CD-RW drive. Extreme Technologies, Inc. brings Super Duper CD-R & CD-RW duplicator, which can copy virtually all CD-ROM formats and connects to any Mac or PC computer with a SCSI interface. Cedar Technology brings the Desktop CD-R Publisher, a combination CDR duplicator and four-color printer in for desktop use .
CeQuadrat will show WinOnCD, advanced CD-authoring software for all CD formats, and just!audio, PC Magazine's Editors' Choice winner for creating audio CDs. Sonic Foundry features CD Architect which includes Sound Forge XP, an audio editor which allows the user-to-studio quality sound and multimedia projects. Ahead Software demonstrates Nero 4.0, a powerful CD-R/RW software from Germany, featuring specialized audio support.
About the CRW4416
The new drive represents the fastest combination of write and rewrite speeds of any CD-RW drive on the market, boasting proprietary Yamaha elements including a newly designed LSI chip set and optical head, as well as the new Write Strategy. Both SCSI and ATAPI units incorporate all of the features of the earlier award-winning Yamaha Multifunction CD-RW drives in the same half-height, 5 1/4 inch space and match their high reliability.
The improved performance makes the CRW4416 drives more powerful storage devices, not only for faster file backup, but also for faster random access rewrite. This 4X rewrite data transfer rate is competitive with other high capacity removable storage devices.
Because of its standard command set, the new drive will be supported by every major CD-RW software vendor. Media and software are now available for the CRW4416.
New Yamaha 4X CD Rewritable Media
4X-compatible CD rewritable media is now available for the Yamaha CRW4416. In addition, Yamaha offers a pre-formatted CD rewritable media solution for customer ease-of-use, as a result of a recently completed agreement with a major media manufacturer. That media will also be provided as a part of the Yamaha CRW4416 kit.
"We are the lead player in the CD-R/RW market, and plan to maintain that lead," said Dean Quarnstrom, sales manager for the Yamaha CD-RW product line. "When we bring out new products, we wait until they are finished, before we ship. Combine that with new design and technology, and Yamaha's customers have made Yamaha desktop CD recording and rewriting systems the virtual standard."
