Here is another example of momentum investing and lack of logic in the stock market. Onec keeps on hearing that COMS is not being bid up because investors need to see further proof of improvements.
Now look at the Semi Equipment stocks. They are screaming as if they are getting tons of orders. The companies are saying that they dont see any orders till mid 99 at best. The SIA said that semi growth in 99 will be 9% which actually has been revised down from 17% forecast 5 months ago. So what the reality is who knows.
Basically 3Com has this tag of a dog round its neck which it is desperately trying to shed.

____3Com Links PalmPilot To Mobile Phones____
3Com Corp. yesterday unveiled an update to its Palm
computing platform that will provide infrared connections
to mobile phones, giving PalmPilot users wireless data
access capabilities.

The company released the Enhanced IR update, downloadable
software that lets PalmPilot users beam data from their
machines to Ericsson's infrared-capable mobile phones.
The Ericsson phones can then transmit information, such as
E-mail, addresses, and application data, across a GSM
cellular network.

3Com says the link to mobile phones will tap the potential
of the PalmPilot, helping users send and receive data
without requiring an external modem and telephone line. That
should increase the desirability of the PalmPilot for uses
such as sales-force automation.

The Enhanced IR update software, which adds the IrComm
infrared communications protocol to the Palm handheld
device, is free. 3Com did not disclose whether it would
support other brands of cellular telephones in future
releases. --Jeff Sweat
