Man, I'm looking forward to that PR...I hope some of those Christmas $$ are ours if we start moving faster than a race between a tortoise and a snail.

Internet stocks surge on online shopping spree forecasts

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov 12 (Reuters) - Internet stocks surged again on Thursday as investors bet those businesses would be the big winners in the upcoming holiday shopping season and beyond.

The online book and music retailer Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq:AMZN - news) was up $4.375 to $131 and auction site eBay Inc. (Nasdaq:EBAY - news) jumped $11.44 to $127.375.

EarthWeb Inc. (Nasdaq:EWBX - news), an online resource for computer professionals that went public earlier this week, was the biggest rising stock of the day, surging $22 to $70.69.

The popular Internet directories Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) and Excite Inc. (Nasdaq:XCIT - news) were also among the day's big gainers. Yahoo was up $7.375 at $172.375 and Excite was up $2.19 at $51.125.

''Generally speaking, I think it is anticipation for the upcoming holiday season,'' said Volpe Brown Whelan analyst Derek Brown, who cited several studies that have come out in recent days suggesting that more consumers than ever will shop online during the weeks before Christmas.

Several Internet businesses themselves have made a big push for online holiday shopping, by introducing features that will make it easier for consumers to use credit cards over the Internet. Even credit card companies like Visa have taken steps to convince wary consumers that this form of shopping is
secure.
