syborg/Still Learning: Are you referring to an online store like the Dell model? To take orders? If so, then I worked at Dell and Im with still learning on this one. First of all theres no real connection between front office and back office systems if you do a vanilla implementation. Huge issues there. If you are going to remove the order entry staff from the order process, then you will probably want to automate the booking process - another biggie - ever try to determine whether a customer is already in your customer master programmatically without some sort of id? And this is of key importance for marketing trends etc, you dont want to erroneously create new customers just because somebody wants something shipped to a different ship-to address. Of course you can always create an online store and then feed things into a system requiring manual entry into the backoffice package but what would be the point of that?

This online store concept reminds me of when SQL first came out. Remember some people thought SQL was just a language. In fact there was all this underlying technology involved to support the relational model. Same with an online store - it is implied that the order booking process is automated, and there is supply chain technology and jit mfg processes to support it. Of course if all you mean is putting up a webpage with none of this underlying stuff then I agree its easy.

I think we just have a simple disconnect here. We can most likely agree that the wealth of information "owned" by SEBL would be the seed data providing an eCommerce site with content. The integration with the back end system(s) would provide the required inventory, billing, shipping, etc..., functions required. The reason I feel it would be realtively straight forward is that there is no requirement for SEBL to interact with the back office systems directly and therefore in real time. Think of this a different way... the web server and associated internet technology are the leads while SEBL and the back office systems provide support. The internet technology leverages the stengths of each and provides its own glue between them.

I may have just stumbled into an opportunity here...
