Of course...normal computing has always been almost totally I/O-bound.
Nowadays, though, the potential is there for being CPU-bound with the full-motion graphics, speech/sound, multiprocessing, etc.

At any rate, we gotta have the imagined SPEED regardless, just because it's available and everyone else has it (or will have it)! Geez...my first PC was 2mhz (Sorcerer 32K Z-80, 1977) and I thought that was a fantastic screamer! (Now I gotta have 128Megs at 350mhz).
