"Other DLC compatibles with ADSL are in various stages of development. In most cases, the next vintage of DLC would support the associated ADSL. Keep in mind that these are not mix and match. They must be kept together as compatible systems or no go. In addition to the NEC - Diamond Lane combination:....4. Advanced Fibre (AFCI) DLC will work with 3Com Affinity."

DenverTechie,
I keep meaning to put together an intelligent question (re:AFCI) but can't seem to find the time! Since the above quote is the perfect lead-in, let me ask a stupid one, if you don't mind. What is a "Universal Modular Carrier 1000 (UMC) system?" And, is the market growing or slowing for this product?

Or maybe I should say, is this another, somewhat, TDM based product along the lines of Tellab's products(not that TLAB products are slowing as you educated me on) and the market is punishing the stock price for being TDM based?

Since my question is pretty general, any general answer would be appreciated and will help me on my research. The stock price has been slammed hard(!), and is really piquing my interest.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)

Denver Tech-man:

What's the "NG" in NGDLC stand for?

And what's the likelihood that my telco (PacBell-South) which is rolling out DSL from my CO (Beverly Hills) is gonna go with some additional special equipment to reach my neighborhood 7 1/2 miles yonder?

I'm not sure what brand of switching equipment their using to rollout initial DSL service. Might be Nortel. Am I correct in reading your post that if the switches are in-fact Nortel, a compatable DLC exists to deliver DSL in my neck of the woods

Assuming this to be the case what kind of expense are we talking about? Any info would be helpful.

TIA,

lml
