well, the analyst seems more like the slippery one. "Can be" $9.00 alludes to some type of perceived expectation. "Reality" is quite a different matter. I can't name a single Y2K company getting anything close to that&#151or anything close to half that&#151or anything close to a quarter of that. Can you? Don't blame it on Josef.

Humbly report, ztect, sorry it took me so long to answer, but I've been rather busy lately, and will be in the near future.

Anyway, regarding the statement "The current amount that can be charged for remediating one line of code can be as high as $9.00 per line..." all I can say is that the absolutely HIGHEST estimate I've EVER seen for a cost per line of code (not multiple lines, nothing in the report about MULTIPLE lines) is here:

hp.com

As you can clearly see, 9 bucks or higher is simply a ridiculous number. Any y2k "analyst" that puts down this figure deserves to be flogged, and anything else he/she says will be dismissed by me as self-serving hyperbolic fiction!

The Gartner Group estimates that at present the highest cost per line of code is about $1.50, but as Jeff pointed out, the average is way under $1.

Regarding other respected analysts, please see #reply-6355718 and you may understand why I dismiss most reports that I cannot verify. In any case, why is it that PINC chose an "analyst" about whom I can find nothing - anywhere. Can you point me to ANY information about them?

Don't have time to research Dwight Romanica right now or in the very near future, other things cooking for me, but will when I get the chance, and will share if I find out anything of interest.

Gotta run again, see you when I find some free time.

Cheers,

Svejk
