Mano,

<<I am not allowing myself to be influenced by the VRTS stake because it has no longer has any bearing on the intrinsic worth of Seagate's (refocused) primary business.>>

This sort of goes to the heart of my point about VRTS. Investing is all about value assessment forward. When I look at VRTS and SEG I see value forward based on synergy that covers the management of data storage in the enterprise on the two platforms that appear inevitable to me (Unix and NT). That curls my toes! Or at least, gives me a warm feeling. <G> I know, I know,...I know that old joke too. In any case I can also appreciate your pragmatism re: VRTS. It will be interesting, perhaps, for us to compare notes when next we see a new bal. sheet eh?

You are looking at 2 of the 3 semi equips I am. The 3rd is SFAM. I do not count VECO as a pure semi equip. (Thank goodness, apparently the market does not either.) All three are on my watch list but I have avoided further investment as I watch the markets. This has cost me some money on these stocks with the recent run-up. I will wait to see a more clear picture of the future.

best,
Stitch
