One final note on funds returning to the region.

The editorial in the latest FEER includes that U.S. funds are "testing the waters" and describes the amount as "piffling." Cites low liquidity as the reason such a minimal amount has achieved a positive effect on regional indices.

The editorial takes a dim view of the recent rally in East Asian equities, saying it is not supported by fundamentals. Gives some numbers, including an NPL in Thailand of 50%.

The rise in equities is driven by a rebound in the currencies, period. Makes several good points in support of this.

I liked the cartoon lampooning the APEC meeting. Two globes -- Estrada and Clinton standing on one, sticking-out their tongues, giving the raspberries to a quiveringly mad Mahatir standing atop the other. <lol>
