On assemblers: They can add great value by burning in and
testing the assembled components before shipping. If you
order the parts, you have to do that yourself, then deal
with the problems that come up individually.....

Amen

I am VERY interested as the evaluation of all of this. Say
on, everybody, please. Sorry to hear about PCNut problems --
it looked very promising.

You're referencing my little drama here..... (I'm just getting round to yesterdays posts) and even I thought it was getting too boring once I had to start dealing with humans again <g> But if you really want to hear it. here's some more.........

As pae pointed out recently the level of specificity (sp) I'm doggedly adhering to seems to be a real turn off to most assemblers. Of course, we can all understand why, but I am willing to pay any premiums necessary for some guy to go the extra mile with me. My latest spec really is meant for a DIY but as I'm reading some of pae's reports about his NT config there is no way I could tackle that with my level of PC experience. My situation is kind of Catch 22....... I know what I want but I'm too stupid to achieve it <g>.
Last couple of days, after the nut appeared to be cracking under the pressure of his own success, I've been emailing back and forth with KC Computer and Minotaur. One has everything but thedrives the other has everything but the mb, they both agreed to let me purchase and ship the missing components to them for assembly but neither has the SDRAM that I want, which pcnut did. ( you sure you want to hear this?) <GG>

And round and round it goes and the more obstinate I get....Their were three other asemblers I emailed the spec to who didn't even bother to reply... sensing more trouble than one more customer is worth. Mushkin had offered a long time ago to build my system, but in true Friday 13th form, they're moving to new digs and have temporarily suspended new system builds.
But I'm not ready too back off my spec yet and am more convinced than ever (thankspots) that I need a pro to set NT up for me. Bottom line ..I could physically but the components together and pay a local to come over and do the config. Having that option, I won't do much compromising with these online operaters.
I'll see what Minotaur has to say about my idea to build, test, burnin but ship without SDRAM. So far no responce from that email this AM. I fired off an apology for asking too much of him, maybe he'll feel guilty and cavein. Hope hes not lurking here..

Thats all for now..more later if you have the stomach......
