Greg, one almost has to trade, at least part of the time. Long term, stocks like Dell are great investments, and will make money. But these dips can cause sleepless nights. I'm beginning to believe that the occasional play of a top, followed by a dip, can reduce risk. I exited about 2/3 of my Dell position over the past three days, based on the cycles apparent in the attached URL graph. It was painful to do so, since I thought there was a chance of hitting 78, but the chart told me to "look out below." It was only today that this became more certain.

All this earnings reaction is a smokescreen for normal cycles.

If we do have a retrenchment here, I'll be back in with at least as many Dell shares as before, with some CPQ and INTC as well with the money I saved by selling. If I'm wrong, I'll probably just go back to the buy and hold strategy that has worked, but caused occasional anguish.
