IMHO, this has nothing to do with shorts, unless you count the 'poor' Market Makers who MUST get short in order to fill your order.

This is nothing more than a gigantic PONZI scheme.

I don't think any development, short of a cure for Cancer, justifies this kind of move.

I suspect this 'news' was nothing of the sort, and was the end result of a work in progress. Breakthrough? I don't think so.

HiSpeed,

You are right, however, today the stock traded above $5 almost all day - daytraders only need an uptick to execute a shortsale.

Believe me - I see it everyday!

This guy in my office made over 100k over the last week shorting GERN last week and shorting KTEL yesterday, but he may give it all back with AVCO. (or more)

SUCH IS THE LIFE OF A DAYTRADER (LEGALIZED GAMBLING)

REMEMBER earlier this week when CNBC mentioned SEVL, CFON or XYBR - they all went up over 300% to 700% in ONE day - but AVCO takes them all!!!

all I can say is WOW!

Rico

I thought a stock had to be over $5 to be shortable. This thing was only $2 yesterday.

Most brokerage firms require a $5 price to open a short and may impose additional margin constraints if the stock drops below $5, but none will close your short because the stock drops below $5.

Look at a one-year chart:

On a two-year chart you'll see that this thing's traded as high as 20:
