George, you do misread me. I am not "defending" myself, and I am "justifying" nothing. Also, I happen to have a wonderful life. Bloody but unbowed, that's me! LOL!

I'll bet Sam feels lucky in life, too.

For one thing, I lived in Africa for five years. Gives a person perspective.

Nothing to defend. Nothing to justify. Just a rebarbative (to me) position about the causes of human suffering on offer here that I felt like responding to.

There's a book by Charles Keyes and E. Valentine Daniel, my husband tells me, titled Karma:An anthropological Study. As I understand it, it is a field investigation, in village India, of how the concept of Karma is used to perpetuate social injustice.
