That's true, it is the same amount of money, but when a stock splits it creates a psychological factor. Many people don't look at it as still the same amount of money, they just say to themselves, "Hey, now I can afford it." Many times after a split you will see a pull back before the stock begins to rise again, although with AOL being one of the hotest internet stocks I just see it going up very fast this year.
