Gottfried,One of us should ask SI how prepared THEY are. I'd rather surf the web in a cold house than be without it in a warm
one. <G>

From, everything I can gather, the Power Grids staying up is my major concern. Without electricity all of us have problem. Since my wife and I have electric heat rather than gas or propane we will be at a loss when the weather in January '99 is a zero F.

My neighbor, just replaced his 17 year old electric furnace with a new gas furnace and has installed the capacity for using propane.

My thoughts are to convert my fireplace into a propane fireplace in addition to placing a vented stove on the basement floor. I was told today that a 120 gallon propane tank would last from January to the Spring months and that vandals do not want to vandalize propane tanks for the fear that they will be blown to bits. At $.89 per gallon for $106.80, $100 installation and parts and stove cost, it appears that my alternative is the best financially unless I purchase a propane generator to handle the electricity.

Going back to our grandparents historical age will be very interesting for younger persons. Just think of those having light, cooking and heating with wood and kerosene and the light of the fire for the first time. One thing will happen, the birth rate will go up<VBG>

From the investment side, just thing of the semiconductor which will be needed to replace the old ones, build new computers for Christmas and expand to a rest of the world.
Right on AMAT.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

My opinions.
