No need even for a cable. With BlueTooth you can support
upto 720Kbps of wireless data transfer between your phone
and the laptop (or whatever) without any cable (expected
in 2000).

Limtex -
GSM and CDMA software is layered. The real difference
is in the so called Physical layer - i.e. the Air Interface.
The software above the physical layer rapidly converges.

As far as connecting your 'phone to a PC, the PC software
can't tell the difference between GSM and CDMA.

I suspect your partner would also have difficulties with a
CDMA 'phone too
