It's quite a trick to create a morally coherent thought with "I am compassionate" and "I am pitiless" (I paraphrase without taking liberties) in the same sentence. Each reader will conclude for him/herself whether you succeeded.

What you have confirmed is that you feel morally comfortable espousing the idea that the millions of arsenic poisoned Bangladeshis in their $266 per annum lives, including the dying mother of four whose husband speaks so untenderly of her and lies next to her with his new bride, should "own" their lives, that they should "try complete self-responsibility" like...like...Rick, of the First World! Yes, like YOU Pinjara Begum should paint that canvas God provided you and her both, with her own hands! Like you, she, her life, her lot, is only the product of her "choices in all places, now and forever!"

That's the way it is, in your idioverse.

Why don't you write Pinjara a letter explaining to her the origins of your and my great blessings in life, as contrasted to her lack of them? Maybe it would help her shape up so she can be born in the first world next time around, where, as the article pointed out, if such a thing happened, the National Guard would be called out to distribute bottled water.
