Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) 84 3/16 -1 5/8: according to market scuttle-butt, telecommunications equipment maker is rumored to be interested in acquiring Analog Devices (ADI 23 1/4 +3/4) instead of Ascend Communications (ASND 53 1/16 -1 1/16); Ascend has been rumored to be a takeover target for some time..... It's certainly possible but it wouldn't be in Ascend's space. ADI does DSPs, and analog-mixed-signal, along with some fairly good ADSL technology. I know LU wants to do its own ADSL and they've also made it clear they're going after TI in the DSP space, so the acquisition makes sense. The ATM space is still wide open. Later -- Pat
