Dr. Laura apologizes for nudie shots

by Renee Lucas Wayne
Daily News Staff Writer

Finally out of denial, Queen of Radio Advice Dr. Laura Schlessinger has apologized for being the subject of that X-rated Internet photo expose on the clublove.com web site.

Now, before you go getting yourself all in a lather -- and firing up the old Web browser -- be advised that Schlessinger's nudie pix were taken 23 years ago by former boss/lover Bill Ballance, who's now 80 and ought to have better sense.

"In my 20s, I was my own moral authority," the good doctor explained to her listening audience. "The inadequacy of that way of life is painfully obvious today.

"I have undergone profound changes over the course of my life, the most important of which is my journey from basic athiest to an observant Jew. My early experiences have taught me how much better it is to live by an objective and absolute standard of right and wrong."

Too bad the same thing can't be said for Mister Bill.

"I had a relationship with a man who was both mentor and friend," said Dr. Laura, sounding very much like a longtime listener/first-time caller. "I am mystified as to why, 23 years later, this 80-year-old man would do such a morally reprehensible thing."

Big Baby

Talk about ego. Everything was going along just peachy for Oliver Stone at Asia de Cuba, a posh New York eatery, the other night, but then he decided we wanted to purchase a bit of the ambiance for home use.

When Stone's offer to buy a painting off the restaurant wall was declined, he accepted the news by copping an attitude with the wait staff.

His tip for an $85 check? A measly five bucks. For shame.

Diva Fit: The Remix

OK, for all you who just have to know what really happened during that much-denied Fair One between Brandy and Monica backstage at the MTV Video Awards rehearsal, here's the straight facts.

First off, it did happen, and, according to three witnesses coralled by Electronic Urban Report -- a performer on the show that night, the aforementioned performer's label rep, and the aforementioned performer's make-up person -- it went a little somthin' like this:

Brandy repeatedly belittles Monica's dancers, often referring to them as 'peons' . . . In defense of her dancers, Monica steps to Brandy with verbal threats to cut it out . . . Shouts are fired . . . Monica throws three quick jabs to Brandy's mug . . . Brandy's bodyguard jumps in and holds Monica down, enabling Brandy to get in a solid pounch to Monica's stomach . . . The melee is broken up by a responsible adult . . . Later, Brandy and Monica perform together on stage like nothing happened.

Must be all those acting lessons.
