I can't imagine there could be any significant improvement translating x86 to VLIW versus translating x86 to RISC (e.g. RISC86, etc). Otherwise it would have been implemented by AMD, Intel, Cyrix, etc. years ago instead of the present day hybrid RISC/CISC cores.
