Stitch,

On a different but related topic, it looks like political stability in ASEAN is still tenuous at best.

See article:
kompas.com

Friday's events in Jakarta is ample evidence that the biggest threat to the Region going forward is the political stability of Indonesia. The worst scenario (mindful of Jerard's comments on the use of metaphors...) would be the "Balkanisation" of Indonesia.

Act II of the Wayang show being played out, the dalang-dalang (puppeteers) not being able to achieve behind-the-scenes consensus.

A Wahid/Megawati coalition, albeit somewhat unexpected, sounds very intrigueing.....

Best,
Stitch

Well said! I would add only one thing. Singapore has had to rely on Malaysia's water supply for (ever?) and into the short term future. The local press and politico (not official gov't) love to raise this issue as punishment for any perceived wrongs committed by Singapore.
