Arnie: You haven't asked me either, so I'll piggyback a no extra charge opinion as well. :-)

We are well past the necessity of keeping a low profile for the reasons you suggest. If, as you state, "NXTL has all the growth they can currently handle", why are they dramatically increasing their advertising budget in places like NYC with its "system problems"?

Certainly another year or so to "fill out" the infrastructure will make a major difference in our national footprint and in quality of transmissions. So why a major "extended" (almost one month) slowdown in continuing to build the infrastructure? Troublesome, even if the reason may turn out to be justifiable.

The possibility that "Paul is doing exactly what Dan and Craig want him to do.", is not comforting to me. I'm very sure that they will do what's good for THEM. What makes you believe that they will do what's good for YOU and ME, ipso-facto?

If delicate negotiations are taking place, THEN LET IT BE STATED AS SUCH! No problemo! If long range planning is taking place, THEN LET IT BE STATED AS SUCH! Again, no problemo! As shareholders, we are entitled to better than, "Capex will not be zero." BS!

We are a multi-billion dollar company growing by leaps and bounds. We are on everyone's scope and trying to keep a low profile sends a signal that we are in trouble. Unless the Q'ly reports are a bunch of lies, that can't be. A significant slowdown in building the infrastructure, and terminating "consultants" also sends a negative signal. These false signals can be rectified by INTELLIGENT PR. It's not, and I fault Blalock. If he's, as you say, following orders, I fault the two key people at N - CM and DA! Unless you know something that the rest of us don't, I would not "apologize" for THEIR mistakes.

Just my take FWIW.

Arnie, can I say bullshit on SI? <G>

Yes, i'm a frustrated Nextel long term investor. That's obvious. All of us long term holders have lost money this past year, and i'm not happy about it, nor shy about expressing my displeasure. We all would have been better off sitting on the fence alongside Ed, and that fence is crowded with people holding our cash.

So why is that? Maybe it's Nextel's unwillingness to comment regarding their motives. For example, why not provide A LITTLE guidance as their intentions with the apparent slowdown in construction. I say apparent because until I hear it from Nextel, and not on internet chat boards, I really don't know.

A little understanding of their intentions could go a long way. You say they don't owe that to their shareholders, I say bullshit. Nextel's not going to "sneak up" on anybody from here on out. If T doesn't know about N by now, then their fools, and T's no fool. The stage is set, the back-up band is warming up, and Nextel is implying we MIGHT be dancing soon. Well, to date, investors are voting to go to another ballroom, thinking the main show could be stuck in traffic. Silence at this point is not golden, it's dangerous.

With lack of communication, all we have is faith in management, which I have, but relying in faith is risky. My gut feeling says hold on and that risk will be rewarded, but today my gut is growing faster than my portfolio.<VBG>

So what does all this negative investor sentiment mean? Probably time to buy more.

Best regards,

Ron
