Art, when the analyst says "digital cable," does he mean cable that has been designed with a head end to work with 2-way digital (i.e. interactive) programming, or does he mean something else, and if so, what?

Hey Art,
Pass the pom-poms!That article about TCI's soaring digital penetration rates was fantastic! Leo Hindery said that he expected an 80% penetration rate in 5 years. The only way they can do that is to have actv interactive stuff on basic, IMO.
Let's say that TCI pays actv $0.25 per subscriber per month for Fox Sports Plus. An 80% penetration rate is about 10M customers. That amounts to $30M a year. Multiply that by about 5 if the other cable ops reach the same penetration, or about $150M a year just for sports.
Now, that doesn't include income from the following:

1) game shows

2) children's programming

3) enhanced newscasts and other forms of interactivity

4) advertising

5) pay per view events

6) use of our technology overseas, such as with Cable and
Wireless ( they have a digital launch in the spring )

7) eschool

8) income derived from the " internet patents " in whatever form
that takes

9) whatever else that I've forgotten or new applications that
will evolve over time

RAH RAH SIS-BOOM-BAH! Pom poms back to you, Art.

Regards,
Jim
