Force feedback game controllers are hot this Christmas...here is what I think is one of the relevant patents
208.201.146.99
...there are others which describe joystick control along 3 axis( used in the ADO Special Effects, for one)for maniputlation of 3D images and spatial transformation etc.

My thought on Cooper was...Advanced Gravis is a leading premium joystick company..as of yet..at least according to website.they don't have a force feedback product yet. Microsoft came out with one..Sony has the dual shock etc... Microsoft's Direct X 5.0 will support FF...Maybe Cooper could make a phone call to the company he ran....just a thought...

for more on ff...see
force-feedback.com

Also, as video games go 3D, Ampex's breakthrough technology for the ADO in 1981 and the continued improvements with related patents etc would seem attractive to bleeding edge game makers..

I think a strategic longterm goal is to boost royalty incomes and hence aftertax profit margins..(see Gemstar of VCRPlus fame and their aftertax net income margin of ..yes 46%) and the nice valuation of Gemstar...

I think the goal for Ampex with their licenses and royalties is

1..enforce what companies are using...

2. Create awareness of what they have so companies will beat down the door to license great technology to help them succeed.

3. Create a branded name for Ampex technology that consumer electronics manufacturers will want it on their product..like Dolby sells steros...Ampex Video Effect or whatever will sell digital products ..
