INDEX UPDATE
--------------------

There were not too many signs of technical strength this week, with the exception that the market did not move down too much, but there were signs of technical weakness:
1) The weekly charts on the DOW, OEX, SPX all show BEARISH HARAMIs.
2) BKX,XAL,TRAN broke their trendline to the downside and stayed below it, so far.
3) ADVANCE/DECLINE showed little improvement and was actually weak. On Friday the DOW closed up 90 points and the A/D was flat.
4) No major improvement in the NEW HIGHs, but NEW LOWs still at minimal levels
5) UP/DOWN volume was somewhat weak

Its obvious that the market is waiting for the outcome from the FOMC meeting. For the week the DOW closed relatively flat, down about 50 points.

Even if the FEDs cuts rates, I still feel that 9100 is a strong resistance area, and if 9100 is not broken quickly if the rates are cut, such would hint a short/mid-term top(30 days).

If the DOW is in the 8900-9000 range if/when the rates are cut, Im not sure I will go long, but if the DOW is in the 8700-8800 range I probably will.

Here is a very interesting technical tidbit analyzing the the NEW HIGH/NEW LOWs. For about 1 month already the NEW LOWS have been in the 10-50 range, while the NEW HIGHs have not gotten above 100. Using
theses charts decisionpoint.com, I checked every year starting since 1970 to see what happened the following months after the above criteria was met. There were plenty of such instances so there is statistical credibility. In the strong majority of cases the following month was either flat or down, whether it occured in a bull market or bear market. Now beyond one month upside potential increased.

From this research it implies that once the top is formed and the NEW HIGHS stay below 100 and NEW LOWS stay in the 10-50 range then the next month should be flat or down.

Gersh: I understand the bickering has run many quality posters off of TSO. I know a lot of posters which originally drew me to TSO are gone. Sad, but true.

Trey did a write up about TSO, but he may not know how good TSO could be if many of the quality participants had not left. Heck this thread was the reason I joined SI. However, within weeks after I joined, the bickering ran many participants off.

I usually post to both the TSO and BK threads. I still enjoy the folks in general on both threads, but I tire of this bickering stuff. I am very close to un-bookmarking TSO.
