Hi Tip, depends on what you mean by "control." I see that I did not clearly make my point. He doesn't need the money. He's a billionaire. Why sell his personal shares at all, since he doesn't need the money? I suggest because he thought the price was better than he might get if he waited. Similarly, I assume that he has quite a lot of control of the foundation, simply by virtue of being its founder, if nothing else. If he advises the foundation to sell, it is because he thinks it is in the best interest of the foundation.

You were on the right track, you just got thrown off by the legalistic mumbo-jumbo. That's ok, that's what it's there for.
