Your hunch was right...

During 1996 and 1997, we met with most of the top VC's in Silicon Valley including Michael Moritz - Sequoia, IVP, Hummer-Winblad, Draper-Fisher, and Softbank.

July 1996, SI received a term sheet from Hummer-Winblad.

August 1996, SI received a $250,000 bridge loan from Softbank.

September 1996, SI signed a letter of intent to be acquired by Excite.

March 1997, SI was in talks with Yahoo for an investment or to be acquired.

March 1998, SI was in talks with Go2Net, Intuit, C/Net, and another company to be acquired.

If Jill wrote her email to you in the March-April 1998 period, then she is good at throwing a curve ball : )
