UNITEC INTRODUCES SCADA GPS INTERFACE MODULE

Unitec International Controls Corporation today announced the introduction of a GPS (Global Positioning System) interface module to provide highly accurate synchronization for its SCADA equipment.

Accurate synchronization of remote equipment and master station real-time clocks and precise time stamping of events has long been a challenge to the electrical utility and other sectors which have traditionally used the half time measurement required to send and receive signals between the SCADA master station and various remote stations. The new GPS Interface Module captures NMEA 183 GPRMC time and marker signals generated by GPS satellites and synchronizes Unitec's master station computers and remote field equipment real-time clocks to .001 second resolution.

In electrical utility SCADA systems where determination of sequence of events (SOE) is critical to fault location and rapid restoration of power, this low cost solution provides a new level of operational performance for the power industry.

Unitec has RFQs (request for quotation) for electric utility SCADA systems in process with estimated values totaling $80 million. This new option will enhance the capability of the Company's already leading technology increasing its chances of winning these and other RFQs that come to tender. Unitec is currently manufacturing a $4.6 million electrical SCADA system for Empressa Electrica EMEC S.A. in Chile.

Unitec is an emerging growth company specializing in advanced technology telemetry, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and environmental monitoring equipment for the water, electricity, oil & gas and transportation sectors. It distributes its products and services through an expanding network of independent agencies in North and South America, the Caribbean, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
