I know that article was regarding HP, IBM and Dogpaq but on the server front Sun also has a vested interest in not seeing Dell succeed in commoditizing the midrange server space. Once we get these issues resolved with intc then I say short Sun immediately... Sun is the worst mfg entity in high tech I have ever seen, they cant even install and ERP over there.

Kemble...The following was posted by the Bull Market Stock Report, which summarizes what I think about the current overall situation:
................................................
So Dell was off 7.6% to $64 on Friday. You know what that spells,
don't you? Buying opportunity?
................................................

If an investor has--hold, if they're looking for a good company with a SOLID future--buy...

Regards, George

Quote du jour-'We have been to this movie before'-Michael DELL.

Hi Kemble:
Thought you might get a kick out of this.

and the question is:

'Can you succeed out-Delling,DELL?',Naaaah don't look like it
if you ask me.

Source:New York Times via San Jose Mercury dated Nov.12,98

....Michael Dell, the company's chairman and chief executive, said in a telephone interview that while he was paying attention to Compaq's moves, he was not concerned.

''We've been to this movie before,'' Dell said, referring to past attempts to copy Dell's business model. ''Their prices are higher than ours; they don't have our cost structure; they have the dealers in tow,'' he said. ''Dell is successful because it brought something new and interesting to the PC business. Can you succeed by out-Delling Dell?''

........................

'But while Compaq, IBM and Hewlett-Packard have all announced plans to emulate portions of Dell's business model, with various build-to-order plans, all have had difficulty in making the transition. Most are moving to a target inventory level of four weeks, while Dell maintains just eight days of inventory, allowing it to turn over inventory 46 times a year.'

PS from Mohan and that is no BS.<g>

They got the inventory thing wrong-should read as ...'Dell maintains just 7 days of inventory (not 8 as shown) level, allowing it to turn inventory 52 times a year...'

Yup looks like they are going to emulate (partially or half-ass) DELL alright but succeed? Naaah not any time soon not with 13 weeks of inventory and partial emulation....
