Larry, IOM has been a whipping boy for a while. Their earnings are expected to be positive next quarter. The stock is worth $7-8 based on my conservative calculation. (next year's E = $0.30, E growth = 25%, 0.30x25=$7.50). Now with Syquest gone and the new competition late with their offerings, and the new 250MB ZIP, and Click! - next year's E might be higher than 30 cents. Abelson's arguments are old as the hills. Just because a competitor announces doesn't mean he'll succeed. I predict Sony's HiFD will not succeed. (LS-120 is also backward compatible. How many people do you know who have one?) Installed ZIP base of 18m drives carries momentum of its own. The bulk of profit comes from disks. Gottfried Yes, many columnists have an agenda. Just a few: Herb Greenberg, Alan Abelson, Bill Fleckenstein. Bill's agenda is his own. The others have a few investor friends who feed them arguments designed to further their investment stance.

Lawrence Kam appears in Barron's, November 16 issue. See the Mailbag section, page 58, "Dismal Science" letters. Fortunately, our fair-haired boy Lawrence Kam (attacking as usual, this time targeting Paul Krugman, MIT economist) is in a gentle mood. Otherwise, Barron's, a family magazine, might have hesitated to publish him. Regards, Larry
