87 after the crash and most of 88 appear to meet the criteria
here.

However that seems to have been a period of generally low
activity, as if the market was in shock for a long time.

Note that a declining slope of new highs, particularly in
the periods you're looking at such as 12/73, is a predictor
of more down.

But in a period like 5/80, a rising slope preceded a further
rally.

These charts have pretty low resolution. Am I looking at the
right areas?
