I spent in Portland Or with a friend this weekend who works in the technical recruiting field. Intel, at least in the Silicon Forest, went through with the announced layoffs as planned, and then went out and hired a lot of folks back as temp workers. There are several possible interpretations of this fact... mine, being an Abelson clone, is that there has been an upturn (we've seen the evidence in the record revenue) but that Intel sees this as a temporary phenomenon.
