Larry, you're way off on those times. ROK announced 56K in Sept. 96, USRX announced their version of 56K (x2) on Oct. 16, 1996. MOT & LU had their 56K around the same period. 56K became available after the beginning of 97, the V.90 standard was just fully established in Sept. 98. 56K has plenty of life left in it. Remember if you are beyond the reach of cable or too far from the CO you can't have ADSL or a cable modem...so 56K is the best alternative.

If your times were accurate, companies wouldn't waste the effort bringing these technologies to market...it wouldn't pay.
