My read of their e-mail to us is that the problem is with the demands we make on their servers; on the other hand, when i once spoke to them (prior to the e-mail) about slow data feed at times, their response was that the problem was on my end - my bandwidth was too small. At the time i was using MBT on a machine with a 56kflex modem that seldom reported higher connect speeds than 28k (I've since switched to a V90, but don't see much improvement with MBT, tho other internet access performance is much better and connect speeds are usually in the 40k plus range).

Irby,

thanks for the link. @home is the local prospective internet cable co in my area. Considering their projections, ATHM might be a great long term hold.

I, too, would love to hear of anyone who is using MBT with cable to see if that has solved the quote freeze problem. As late as Friday, Ross Ditlove was saying that they had found a bug and were working to resolve it. I still had seven freezes Friday (I am keeping notes on them daily) even tho my 56k modem delivers 49k steadily. The quote freeze problem is wide spread on MBT and it is a real black eye for an other wise great service.

Rick

I will activate my MBT account on December 1st WITH my cable modem installed and already in place. I will also log on with my 33K baud modem to compare the service and will let y'all know the difference.

I suspect it will be night and day.

Colin

BTW Anyone know: does the MBT "billing month" start on the first trading day of the month i.e. 12/1/98 or do they start on a "Monday" i.e. 11/30/98?

I've just recently started trading with MBT and am using @HOME. I have yet to have any problems with frozen quotes. Speed is excellent and I seem to be able to have as many studies open at one time as I can fit on the screen without any apparent slowdown.

Previously I was using waterhouse/wwquote with a 56K modem (only able to connect at 28K) Talk about moving out of the dark ages!! :)

Cable is a no-brainer. I used to have two dialups (one for back-up) and two phone lines. With cable I was able to eliminate one phone line and one backup ISP. So, add $50 for cable, subtract $32 and cable only costs $18 more. Any more questions?
