OK, Dell forward PE twice that of S&P 500.......now just about everyone is saying that the S&P will do lousy next year.....so there goes the comparison, doesn't it??

Apratim, calculating a beta is an exercise in futility. Look at the standard sources and I think you will find that no two of them agree. I have seen betas for Dell in the range of 1.5 to 1.8. A lot of the difference has to do with the length of time used, and whether daily, weekly, or monthly data are used.
