Supports both packet as well as circuit oriented technology. It seems like the 5Es typically is circuit switched base, but by adding packet blades it can support packets as well as it can for circuits. See the last paragraph. And wow! even for WIRELESS! The 5Es will give the data networking companies like csco a run for their money. Why? because it can support voice as well as data in one box. IMO, and I think we all know that getting into the voice world is very difficult as opposed to getting into the data world. Contrary to what many beleive, that there is a large mkt to capture for data companies in voice world, imo, it's just the opposite, there is very little market share to get for data networking companies in the actual voice world. Why? because transporting voice packets over the wire using IP is just one little tinie-winnie piece of the big voice jigsaw puzzle. All the data companies still need to fill in the rest of the pieces of the puzzle and that would take, imo, maybe ten years or more. ===============> <Under the latest frame agreement, Lucent will supply its 5ESS® Switches and wireless access technologies to expand the capacity of Telecom Egypt's network in Cairo, Alexandria, the Nile Delta and upper Egypt.
