The Tandem Himalaya architecture uses a version of this architecture. Although that's not exactly mainstream, it does provide a solid base for technical and performance verification which has been around for many years. The IBM SP2 switch also uses wormhole routing to reduce latencies and provide MESH scaleability. Mainstream products are more a matter of agreeing on standards and solving the cost issues than technology per se.

Justin Rattner and Chris Dodd at Intel have also done a lot of work in this area although I don't know how much is published. They were also important contributors to the VI work.
