Can you hear them
they talk about us
telling lies
well that's no surprise

can you see them
see right through them
they have no shield
no secrets to reveal

pay no mind to what they say
it doesn't matter anyway

Our lips are sealed

Pay no mind to what they say
it doesn't matter anyway

Our lips are sealed

Our lips are sealed

Our lips are sealed

Can you name that tune?

To Lisa:

Dreaming of Flight

Looking upward,
at the safety of the sky,
a broken robin lay hiding.
It's endless flee from danger,
left it exhausted, thirsty,
a broken wing lay limp at its side.

Somehow the robin knew the end was near.
Still calling out to its near by mate,
brings the risk of predators.
Did the robin know this,
or was it just last words?
I could hear its call most of the night,
by morning it was quiet.

As I approached its hiding place,
a nearby robin took flight to safety,
but at my feet lay the lifeless body of the injured robin.
The one that fled was its mate,
that stayed with it throughout the night.
It left me with one question;
Is love reserved only for humans?

To Lisa:

I Didn't Hear You

Downtown,
panhandlers asking for money.
Some asked softly,
not wanting to draw attention,
others don't care and ask aloud.
Humiliated?
No, survival's the game.

People walked by the panhandlers,
pretending no one was there.
Special occasions,
Thanksgiving,
Christmas,
passer byers open their wallets,
maybe give a dollar or two.
After the holiday,
people walk past,
eyes fixed forward,
pretending the panhandlers were never there.
