All: That accounting article in Barrons sounds worse than it is. How the average misunderstanding investor will react is beyond me.

What it boils down to is certainly not something that can be termed "creative accounting". Creative its definitely not. The estimates might be creative but the accounting sure isn't. LSI and all the other companies have taken the writeoffs in accordance with GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures.

All research and development is expensed as incurred. If the R & D is bought then its expensed, just as if it was created from within.

David...Yikes! Thanks for shaping me up!... I missed the Barron's report completely....even though "everybody" has been chatting about it... Now I understand the odd weakness on fri....
OK, I now must vote to stay on the sidelines for the nonce... I have a much bigger commitment in VLSI now than LSI..(also still have the DPMI, VTSS, NTAP, ELNK, PSUN,....and tada!-- LTXX....among others)...also oils. Did I mention the "triumph of hope over experience"?... Am I trying to "experience" it again???
Anyway appreciate the rapid update...before I did something foolish (again)! :-) Cheerful trading, old friend..
