Jim,

Checked DELL's 2Q 10-Q out. In 2Q DELL bought back 22 million shares at an average price of 18. At the end of the second Q the share price was 55 approx. This means a value addition of 0.8 billion! To put this in perspective, revenue was about 4.3 billion. If DELL just turned around and resold the shares that would have added around 20% to the revenue, which I believe would be enough to cover the approximately 10% discrepancy between diluted and non-diluted growth in EPS. Cannot calculate the exact numbers as I am not sure of corporate tax treatment of earnings from share buybacks.

Thanks much to the thread!
