I'm no expert. CPQ lovers think the DEC purchase was a good one because they were losing market share in PCs to others and needed to broaden product offerings to continue to grow. Seems to me, on its face, diversifying is a good idea, but will diversifying into the enterprise stuff get them anything immediately? I bet not. I think it will be at least two - three years before you can tell whether it was a good idea for them to buy DEC. Have to go through a down cycle and come out the other side first.
