Daniel,

The lack of product recognition and execution are astounding, especially given their success at design-ins. The fact that Lexar has advertised, picked up a few sales gimmicks ("zillion exposure guarantee", 4X speed,...) and bundled a lot of goodies with their cards as lost leaders contrasts sharply with SanDisk's more anemic attempts to popularize their own cards. For example, they could easily cash in on Kodak's name by manufacturing private label Kodak Science CF cards, sell them in bright yellow and red boxes and pay a small licensing fee to Kodak. They need to be more creative in packaging. If you look at the design companies like Pontis has used with MMC it is clear that the only limits are the extent of your creativity.

Their approach to capturing retail sales is exclusivity agreements. To me this seems to be a fairly drastic measure, especially if your competitor comes in and low balls you for next years exclusivity contract.
