Intel has already invested some in small company:

This is very interesting... DSL tech. can be done in SOFTWARE, not hardware only! I am learning new things everyday... this leading edge engineering stuff is much more fun than counting beans. I should have listen to my dad and study EE.

"The company's first product is actually the world's first DSL chip set done in software -- not hardware. In other words, this product is a software-modem DSL chip-like product line that reduces cost and board space in systems, but it requires a ton of processing power from
high-end microprocessors from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, and
others. "

Oh, I forgot to comment on China not ready for DSL.

True China is a decade behind, but believe me, once G-lite is available at low cost, they will not use 14k for a year then 28k for 2years, then 56k for another 3years... they will skip these steps.

Sometimes it is better to start from ground zero. Many times deployment of new technology is delayed because of existing old technology.
