James - I think you will find that using a discount broker will limit your shorting abilities. I assume it is the same in the states but the broker must find a lender of the stock in order to short it. Many of the penny stocks that run up are still unavailable to short for the average joe.

The pros do it because they short their house positions and their clients margined positions. Good luck.

Out of all of the excahnges the I suspect that shorting will be best on the TSE and maybe the MSE but their will be limited opportunties on the VSE and ASE simply due to availability of stock to be borrowed.

e*trade canada currently has not a short trading ..
according to their rep they will have that option ?? january or
february or march ?? next year .
i started with them last week and this is what i was told ...
